- The front of the Franklin half-dollar was designed in 1948 by the Chief Engraver for the United States Mint, John R. Sinnock and based upon a bust statue of Benjamin Franklin created by Jean Antoine Houdon.
- The back of the coin features a large rendition of the Liberty Bell.
- The series ended with the introduction of the Kennedy Half Dollar in 1964, making the Franklin Half Dollars even more desirable to investors.
